Week's box office reports

The coming Friday will witness the release of the Suneil Shetty, Rajpal Yadav and Udita Goswami starrer MERE DOST PICTURE ABHI BAKI HAI, the internationally acclaimed Children's Film Society-India venture GATTU and also the Zakir Husain starrer OVERTIME. It is obvious that none of the new releases will make any impact, barring to an extent GATTU, and too with a section of the niche audience.
Last week's premier release was Illuminati Films' Homi Adajania directed Saif, Deepika and Diana starrer, COCKTAIL. As is by now well known, the film has managed the best ever opening weekend for a Saif Ali Khan solo (35 crore plus), and is doing pretty well during the weekdays too. What is interesting is that COCKTAIL was expected to be a multiplex success, but the film surprised with quite a decent single screen performance as well. COCKTAIL has also done quite well in the overseas grossing and#163;296,000 in the UK and $648,000 from the US, during the opening weekend (13-15 July).
After a good weekend (38.50 crore), Rohit Shetty's Ajay, Abhishek and Asin starrer, BOL BACHCHAN, maintained very well during the weekdays as it collected 7.75 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 3 crore from Ahmedabad, 55.50 lakhs from Surat (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 75.65 lakhs from Rajkot, 81.55 lakhs from Pune (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 42.50 lakhs from Nasik, 22.65 lakhs from Goa, 7.65 lakhs from Belgaum, 6 crore from Delhi city, 27 lakhs from Noida, 45 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 50 lakhs from Kanpur, 80 lakhs from Lucknow, 21.25 lakhs from Agra, 20 lakhs from Allahabad, 1 crore from Gurgaon, 19.25 lakhs from Faridabad, 8.65 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 12.35 lakhs from Panipat, 21.60 lakhs from Chandigarh, 17.65 lakhs from Jalandhar, 11.60 lakhs from Amritsar, 7 lakhs from Ludhiana, 5 lakhs from Bhatinda, 4.25 lakhs from Ambala, 1.15 crore from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2.75 lakhs from Darjeeling, 4.65 lakhs from Siliguri, 9 lakhs from Guwahati, 70.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 32 lakhs from Jabalpur, 45.50 lakhs from Raipur, 1.10 crore from Indore (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 20 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 40 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2 crore from Jaipur, 22.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 15.35 lakhs from Bikaner, 33 lakhs from Kota, 1.15 crore from Hyderabad, 30 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1 crore from Bangalore, 4.35 lakhs from Vijayawada, 6 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 6.50 lakhs from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived) and 2 lakhs from Kochi. Netting around 61.50 crore during the opening week from India, BOL BACHCHAN is on way to sure shot hit status. The film has also done wonderfully in the overseas (good in US) grossing and#163;335,000 from UK and $1,004,200 from the US, till the second weekend (13-15 July).
Checking out Kunal Kohli's Shahid-Kareena starrer, TERI MERI KAHAANI, the film went from bad to worse (in the third week) as it barely managed another 50 lakhs and has netted 28.50 crores in three weeks from India and has failed at the box-office. The film has done very well in the overseas, especially in the US.
Moving on, Anurag Kashyap's GANGS OF WASSEYPUR maintained quite well (despite BOL BACHCHAN) as it collected 50 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.25 lakhs from Surat, 6.75 lakhs from Pune, 1.75 lakhs from Nasik, 44.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 8.35 lakhs from Noida, 4 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3 lakhs from Kanpur, 7 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Allahabad, 12.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Faridabad, 2 lakhs from Chandigarh, 10 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2.55 lakhs from Nagpur, 2.75 lakhs from Jabalpur, 3.15 lakhs from Raipur, 4 lakhs from Indore, 1.50 lakhs from Bhopal, 4.25 lakhs from Jaipur, 2 lakhs from Hyderabad, 11.65 lakhs from Bangalore and 1.50 lakhs from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived). Adding another 3 crore, GANGS OF WASSEYPUR has netted 28 crores in three weeks from India and with some luck may even get to a semi-hit status!
Meanwhile Vidhu Vinod Chopra's FERRARI KI SAWAARI is on the final stretch as it collected 25 lakhs from Bombay, 2.20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.50 lakhs from Pune, 8 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.55 lakhs from Noida, 2 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Chandigarh, 3.20 lakhs from Calcutta , 6 lakhs from Hyderabad and 4 lakhs from Bangalore. With another 80 lakhs FERRARI KI SAWAARI has netted 29.80 crores in four weeks from India. Although the film is a personal triumph for Sharman Joshi, given the high price at which it was sold to the global distributor, it is a commercial failure.
Concluding with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Prabhu Dheva directed, ROWDY RATHORE, the film added another 75 lakhs and has thus netted 134.75 crores in six weeks from India. The Akshay-Sonakshi starrer is a blockbuster! The film has performed decently in the overseas.
