And we mean that quite literally
Our buddy the birdie, who flew straight out the swank offices of the makers of Kaam: The Unofficial Story a while ago, divulged to us a juicy bit of information. The feathered informant revealed, “Exactly a week before Sudhir Mishra was to begin shooting for the film, Arjun Rampal (he plays the lead opposite Chitrangda Singh in the film) demanded a fee hike. He said he would do the film only if he was paid twice his market price. The filmmakers had no option but to give in to his demands.” After all, everything was set for the shoot to start and there was no way a new actor could be chosen at such short notice.
Apparently Mishra’s nightmare didn’t end with that. Since he had to compulsorily dole out a chunky fee to his lead actor from the tight budget, the film’s production costs had to be cut down drastically to balance things. “And you will see it in the film. The production isn’t up to the mark. The movie took very long to start so Sudhir didn’t want to wait for another actor,” says our birdie and continues, “It’s highly unprofessional for Arjun to raise his fee at the last minute.”
Thankfully, the sordid matter is a thing of the past and Mishra’s ambitious project is in its post-production stages. The Yeh Saali Zindagi director and his producers Viacom 18 are looking for an appropriate date to release the drama about sexual harassment in the corporate world.
We wouldn’t be surprised if after this unpleasant experience Sudhir gives up his starry ambitions and goes back to working with the likes of Irrfan Khan and Shiney Ahuja, who are far better actors with reportedly more professionalism. Not all ambitions are worth achieving.
